Putting Your Digital Products Out There: A little lesson on creative vulnerability.
Putting your work out into the world can feel… a lot.
And sometimes the lesson shows up in unexpected ways.
A stranger popped into my website chat recently to tell me his wife loves my website.
Lovely! Truly! No notes!
And then — because the internet is gonna internet — he had notes and followed it up with some very unsolicited feedback about my images, my site performance, and what I should “go ask ChatGPT to fix.”
A light sprinkle of mansplaining. Classic.
What he doesn’t know is this:
I built my website from scratch knowing absolutely nothing. Like… zero. I’ve spent years learning as I go — late nights, early mornings, broken pages, missed semicolons, and plenty of “why is this doing THAT” moments along the way. This site has been growing and evolving with me for the past eight years. (Truly, he should’ve seen it back then.)
And yes—I’m fully aware it’s not perfect. It probably never will be – but I'm always in the process of upgrading things as my skills, tools, and business grow. No outside commentary required.
Here’s the part I really want you to hear:
Moments like this will happen when you put your work out into the world. It might be an email from a customer, a comment on your Instagram post, or a review on Etsy that leaves you with a knot in your stomach.
It’s not a sign you’re doing it wrong—it’s a sign you’re visible. And the people offering drive-by opinions rarely know the full story, the learning curve, or the effort behind what they’re seeing.
Your work doesn’t need to be perfect to be shared.
It just needs to be started.
Chances are, your first version won’t be flawless. Neither was mine. Not my website, not my very first digital planner listing.
That’s not a failure—that’s where everyone begins. You refine by doing, by learning, by iterating… not by waiting until someone else thinks it’s ready.
So if you’ve been holding back—waiting for perfect, or quieter opinions, or more confidence—let this be your nudge:
Put the work out there anyway. Trust your taste. Let your best be your best for now. The better comes from continuing, not from hiding. ✨
If you’re ready to be seen…
If this little lesson resonated — and you’re feeling that pull to stop waiting and start creating — I’d love to invite you to join me inside The Extraordinary Digital Planner Design Course.
It’s where I teach you how to design digital planners from scratch (no prior experience required), and where you get to practice being visible in a supportive, encouraging space. You’ll also have access to our private Facebook group, where you’re welcome to share your work, ask questions, and grow alongside other creatives who are figuring it out as they go.
You don’t need to know everything before you start.
You just need a place to begin.
PS: Friendly reminder that unsolicited advice is optional. You are allowed to read it, blink twice, and hit delete. Truly a magical feature of the internet. 💅
